The Switching Game
"The Switching Game" is a way of thinking that helps you come up with new and different ideas.
In this technique we will be taking a powerful prompt and reworking it in a creative and unexpected way to achieve a similar impact with a twist on the original idea.
The goal of the technique is to broaden your perspectives, and generate new brilliant ideas.
By switching up the context, wording, or framing of a prompt, new and valuable insights can be discovered that would have otherwise gone unnoticed.
So what do I mean?
Let’s continue with what we learned in “The Sweet Spot” chapter and go to
In order to scroll through the community feed.
Our goal here is to find an image in the community feed and think:
"What’s the power and potential of this idea, and how can I innovate upon it?"
Or the slightly longer version:
“What makes this idea so powerful, and how can I put a twist on it to take it to a new direction?"
For example, let’s say we stumble upon this in the community feed:
A dog on the cover of vogue
Let’s see how I took this prompt and played The Switching Game with it!

A dog on the cover of vogue. Ok… Cool?
No!
This is an absolute endless goldmine.
This idea is gold by itself, and it even comes with a prompt we can use!
It basically opens the door for
“X on the cover of vogue”
This means we have infinite possibilities and each one can be a gold mine of it’s own.
This one prompt is basically a gold mine within infinite goldmines.

Here you can see how I simply took the foundation of the idea:
“X on the cover of Vogue”
And ran with it in many different directions, each one captivating in it’s own way and with it’s own loyal fanbase.
The general ideas were:
Horror Characters on the cover of Vogue
Video Game characters on the cover of Vogue
Disney Princesses on the cover of Vogue
Starwars Characters on the cover of Vogue
This is a classic example of playing The Switching Game with a random prompt from the community feed.
Everyday there’s a goldmine like this waiting to be found on the community feed.
Try to open your mind and think:
"What are some ways to creatively modify a brilliant idea?"
